ADOPTION INFORMATION

ADOPTION INFORMATION

Adopting a cat or kitten can be a 20 year commitment so please give this some thought before adopting!

Our standard adoption fee is $100 for  kittens and $80 for older cats.  This includes de-sexing, micro-chipping and registration on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register.  However, it does NOT include vaccinations.  You will need to get vaccinations done yourself and please note, catteries will not take animals who are not vaccinated.  If your kitten is too young to be de-sexed they will be re-called when they are  6 months old (girls can be done earlier if showing signs of being on heat).  You will need to be able to take your kitten to Warkworth Vets, Coast to Coast Vets or Wellsford Vets in Wellsford.  If you wish to use your own vet, you will need to pay any extra fees.  If you move out of the area before your kitten is de-sexed, you MUST let us know so we can update your details.  Your cat/kitten will be up to date with flea & worm treatments.  We use Revolution for fleas & worms, ticks & ear mites and also a drontal occasionally to cover tape worm.

All kittens remain the property of Julies Animal Refuge until they are de-sexed and we reserve the right to uplift the

kitten if not desexed by 6 months of age,

You must talk to us before rehoming a kitten before it is desexed as it remains our property,

You must be over 18 to adopt an animal from us

If you are renting you will need your landlord's permission in writing

It is not first in, first  served, we care about our animals and need to place them in an environment best suited to them

BEFORE YOU PICK UP YOUR CAT/KITTEN YOU SHOULD ACQUIRE THE FOLLOWING:

Litter tray (we suggest 2 so there is always a clean one available).

Litter - we use whatever is donated but notice cats prefer the cheap clay litter

Food & water bowls (water should be available at all times)

Food - we feed Purina One biscuits in the turquoise bags and it is best you start with the same and

slowly mix in your preferred biscuits so as not to cause gut issues

Bedding & Toys - they don't need to be expensive, kittens are just as happy chasing empty cotton reels, ping pong balls etc

CAT CAGE - WE INSIST ALL CATS/KITTENS LEAVE THE REFUGE IN AN APPROPRIATE CAT CAGE/CARRIER.

YOU WILL NEED A  CAGE FOR VET VISITS & OTHER CAR TRAVEL

Be prepared to keep your cat/kitten indoors for at least 2 weeks, timid ones even longer.  This means no open doors/windows etc.  This is so your cat/kitten can become comfortable with it's new surroundings, bond with you and understand where it is safe, loved & fed!

If you have any problems with your cat/kitten please let us know as soon as possible.  We are always here to talk/discuss anything pertaining to your cat/kitten.  Any behavioural problems need to be addressed as soon as possible.  We allow 2 week trial periods.

DETAILS WE NEED FROM YOU

Your name, residential address, phone number, email address and an alternate contact,

i.e. a friend or relative who lives at a different address to you.
